Shipped my desktop computer

... and now it seems to be broken. I am plugging in a monitor that I know is functional, a USB keyboard, and the power cord. When I turn the computer on, the lights turn on and it makes regular bootup noises. But, there is no input being detected by the monitor. I am connecting it to a DVI port on my video card. I've tried a DVI cable, and a VGA cable with a DVI converter. Nothing shows up, no BIOS boot or anything. Anyone know what the issue is? Can I get money out of UPS for this?

Can you check the monitor, too?

"check" the monitor for what? to see if it's functional? in that case yes, the monitor works with my laptop and I saw it working with the computer of the guy who sold it to me.

also yes, the video card is powering on; the fan on the side of the card spins up when i power on the computer.

the VGA slot on my motherboard isn't producing any output either.

what's going on? is my motherboard the thing that's fried? or is it my video card? or maybe my hard drive is busted? would i get output with a busted hard drive?

edit: problem fixed. RAM needed to be reseated.

That's such a simple fix, but like you, it would have probably been one of the last things I checked, haha.

haha, first thing I thought of was your ram got unsettled in shipping, as that will basically halt a computer at the initial bootup... ive had the exact same issue with the ram before... took me hours to figure it out. next suggestion would have been the video card getting unset as well tho :P

coolstory, thermite!

i facepalmed myself hard when i realized i had fixed my computer by reseating. i spent so much time worrying about whether my cables or monitors were broken. travelling does wonky things to computers.
