Re: Desktop Shopping

I wouldn't worry about it much. For your thumb drives and other fast devices, just go behind the case and plug them in. For everything else, USB 2.0 is fine. Your motherboard has several headers on the bottom that you can connect your front panel USB up to. They are USB 2.0, but they will function f...

Re: Desktop Shopping

Be careful...I chose the 95watt version specifically because it was 95 watts and will be cooler and less space heater like than your 125 watt options. Less heat = longer life, and overclocking also enjoys less heat should you ever get that urge.

That is why I chose that model.
:likesthis: Just letting him know that doing something because it is cheaper sometimes doesn't justify the issues that could result from it, especially if he was not fully prepared to do it in the first place, as his original post indicated.
I would go as far as to say that yo...

Re: Desktop Shopping

No reason in particular. I didn't want to skimp on your build, but left plenty of room to do so if needed. The 990FXA is on sale for $138 with rebate. I have the 970A in my rig and I like it just fine. I cannot however run SLI...which is why I like the 990FXA

Re: Desktop Shopping
I'm gonna build a desktop for video editing at some point, once I have enough capital. So this'll be great to check back too then. Question, would it be preposterous to use an Ionic Breeze as a fan? or would eliminating the dust going in/out actually be helpful? Or submerged oil coolin...

Re: Desktop Shopping

A monkey can do it...trust me. Step 1: Install CPU onto Mobo (do this outside of case...makes it much easier). Thermal paste already applied with stock CPUs..and I think the heatsink is already installed on the bulldozer AMD chips. I also install my mem while everything is outside of the case. Step ...

Re: Desktop Shopping

Holy shit I didn't know the i7 was that expensive. Def drop to an i5. Upgrade the GFX card for sure. Honestly, my last build was an AMD Phenom x4. Bang for buck, hard to beat. You can save $300 alone by going AMD, and the speed will be exactly the same in real world use. I would spend that extra $30...

Re: Desktop Shopping

My 2c. It is time to learn how to build a computer. Exactly what you wanted to hear right? I could literally walk you through it on a video chat in no time. There are also some amazing videos on newegg/youtube on how to do it yourself. You can get EXACTLY what you want and get a sweet rig for the 1k...
