I don't think the aim servers take the letters as you type them only when you send the whole message. It just has a flag that it sends to the server when your typing.. I thought this was built into aim as the idle system and having an away message when you go idle? Maybe I'm mistaken because I haven't used AIM in a long time I could swear it gives you the default "I'm away from my computer" away message when you went Idle and I thought you could customize that.

what you are going to be looking for is a key logger.. at least from the sounds of it.
