I'm not a Mac user, but I have heard of a program called Fire. May want to try that. But i've also heard very good things about Adium as well.

MM 5.5 is recommended. I know somewhere along the line, they moved the get info button from the bottom to a smaller icon a bit higher up. I have it with AIM 5.5.3595 and it works fine. The old MM website had links to download a lot of old AIM versions. And yes, it is possible to have MM work with 5....

I don't see the M_M FAQ on the website and I didn't see a thread about it's absence on the forums, hence the question.

Did it just take us this long to notice it was missing?

Better yet -- There's a code out there that if you're using IE, it will actually deny access and if you're using Firefox, it'll allow access.

Just an idea, but you might want to put a "our new website is located here" over at krunchsoftware.com -- I see middleman.krunchsoftware.com has been taken care of.
