Free Internet

This is at least curious, if not awesome.

This company is providing half a gig of free internet a month if you put a deposit down on the device you use to connect with.

2 week beta so act fairly quickly if you are interested.

Only works where there is WiMax (pretty much where Sprint has 4G).

I didn't see any 2 week beta stuff, but I just signed up for the free plan and a hotspot. 90 bucks out of pocket up front, allegedly will be refunded when I return the device, I can live with that.
I also spammed my whole gmail contact list on accident. I apologize if any of you are on it...

From The Verge:
For the next two weeks, the wireless MVNO will be accepting public beta registrations and doling out Wi-Fi hotspots and USB dongles to tens of thousands of users.
I signed up too. I was looking to get a mifi for when I'm at the airport, etc. This will be a great alternative. Thanks Anthony!!

So I got my "Photon" today. My wife has a Verizon LTE MiFi for work so I was expecting something similar, but this thing is tiny. Same thickness and width of my phone, but only half as tall.
It gets some signal where my phone doesn't get any. I have shit for coverage at my house (Downtown Orlando), and I am getting double digit pings, 2mbs down and 1mbs up on the "Photon" and on my E4GT I get a ping in the high 200ms with downloads about 500kbs or so. If I go down the street a bit I normally get at least 5mbs down on the phone so I will be seeing what this thing does there.

I got mine on Thursday. I tested it out, I don't have 4G at my house (the color indicator was yellow meaning it was 3G). My up/down speeds on speedtest.net were something like 0.7MBs down, 0.2 MBs up. It doesn't compare to my 4G-LTE phone, but I don't have tethering enabled on my phone and don't want to risk getting dinged by AT&T, so this is a good option when I need to send an email on my laptop, especially since it's free.

I don't they offer 3G at all. I think Yellow is just crap 4g coverage.

Ah, that makes sense. I did a speed test with my phone shortly after. I get 20 MBps with the 4G-LTE. Better than my home internet.

So some of you have had it a month. Thoughts? Should I get it?

I'm most curious to know if it goes down to 3G if there is no 4G.
