Java and Chrome

Post by PhaseDMA »

Why is Chrome telling me Java is out of date even though I just downloaded it and the Java site says it's up to date?

I get that Java should be avoided at all costs, but Chrome lying about the version is pretty over the top.

A couple things I can think of.

1) You actually have two versions of Java installed on your machine. I don't know how likely this is on Windows, but I have two versions in Linux. Are you running Or

2) You're running a 64bit version of Chrome, but installed a 32bit version of Java.

Have you looked at this: http://www.java.com/en/download/faq/chrome.xml

Thanks for your insight Thermite. /s

Also, don't forget that chrome uses a plugin for java. Just installing a new version of Java won't update this plugin.

Yes. I have the Chrome plugin (although that was insightful). I do have a 64 bit OS... It *seems* I'm using the 64 bit version of Java too. I have no idea about Chrome and I'm not sure how to find out. Does the Chrome site just know to install the 64 bit version?

The java issue is the main reason I use firefox over chrome.
That and chrome has weird issues with cookies; sometimes it won't release them and I have to go incognito mode to access websites, which is incredibly stupid.

I have the cookie issue with my work site, but I always figured it was on their end - Not Chrome's. I use "Edit This Cookie" to deal with the problem, but it's hardly a good solution. Ideally the extension would auto delete the cookie every 24 hours or something.

But I stick with Chrome because it syncs.

It doesn't help that Firefox sucks on Android - Kind of like how Winamp sucks on Android.
